About the VT323 font

VT323 was made by Peter Hull from the glyphs of the DEC VT320 text terminal, which he used in college. The original terminal used pixels that weren't square, because of the way it scanned its CRT screen, so for VT323 he adjusted the pixel positions to imitate how the electron beam lit up the phosphor. The result keeps the soft, slightly stretched look of real terminal text. VT323 is free under the SIL Open Font License.

Using VT323 for hacker screens and retro UIs

VT323 suits fake terminals, hacking minigames, computer screens inside games and retro sci-fi posters. Set it in green or amber on black and add the neon glow effect in the preview above for a CRT look. Because every character is the same width, it lines up neatly in tables, code and ASCII art.
